ANARCHY OF THE LINE; DRAWING COMES OF AGE
NORTHVILLE ART HOUSE, 215 W. CADY STREET
Be a pART of it! Drawing once served solely as a means to an end – a step in the formulation of an idea on its way to a painting or sculpture. But “drawing” deserved better, and artists in recent decades have recognized the spontaneity and freedom of the unfettered line as a new destination. Without constraint as to subject or material, the Northville Art House proudly celebrates the explosion of creativity that is drawing today and presents a remarkable group of local artists whose work pushes all boundaries:

Corrie Baldauf - 2011 Kresge recepient who makes drawings based on experience and time.

Matthew Boonstra - Incorporates used oil as a medium to comment on our effect on our world.

Matthew Breneau - Makes 3-dimensional abstract drawings from carved wood.

Patricia Candor - Uses simple materials to create mysterious drawings that vibrate with movement.

Larry Cressman - Uses nature as a source of his lines.

Barbara Dorchen - Makes drawings based on time.

J.H. Dozier - Combines photographs, painting and drawing to create abstract images in the digital medium.

Franklin Jonas - Uses geometry to explore his obsession with the 5-pointed star.

Shaqe Kalaj - Makes non-traditional drawings with her feet as public performance art.

Chris Lujan - Uses coffee, ink, pen and paper creating works that capture the memory of childhood.

John McLaughlin - A self-taught artist whose drawings come from the subconscious.

Corinne Pemberton - Layers scribbles to create vibrant abstract drawings.

Dolores Slowinski - Draws abstract images by stitching with thread on paper.

Mary Williams - Make drawings of ordinary life that have an unsettling tone.

The show is curated by Jeff Cancelosi.

The show will open in the Northville Art House’s upper gallery with a reception and artists’ talk on Friday, March 2, from 6:00pm -9:00pm. The show will continue through March 24 during the Art House gallery hours (Wednesdays-Saturdays, 1:00pm - 5:00pm). The Art House is located at 215 W. Cady Street and is a facility of the Northville Arts Commission. Admission to Art House shows is always free and open to the public.

By taking advantage of this program, your taxes will always be paid on time whether you are sick or out of town. Added benefits are no checks to write, no need to wonder if the check was received in time to avoid penalty and no trips to City Hall.
Participants in automatic bill payment of property taxes receive their tax bill in the mail on July 1st and December 1st with a letter confirming when the withdrawal will be made from their account.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a year-round program. Electronic Funds Payment is not available for only the summer tax or only the winter tax bill.

SEWAGE BACKUPS
A note to our residents: Most homeowners insurance will not cover sewage backups. Please check with your insurance provider to obtain this coverage. Check valves called “backflow preventers” can help minimize back up occurrences and related damage. Check with your plumber or contact a licensed plumber in your area. If you don’t have insurance that covers sewage backups and you do not have a check valve in your sewer line, you should consider having one installed.

PAPERLESS BILLING OPTION FOR UTILITIES
Utility bill customers may now sign up to receive email bills or arrange for automatic payment through the City's website. E-bills are emailed on the billing date with a full page bill attached in pdf format. Automatic payment is an arrangement between the customer's bank and our bank by which the amount due is deducted from the customer's account each due date. You can sign up by clicking here or email Wendy Gutowski with questions.
