Northville adds two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations
Northville Mayor Ken Roth was among the ribbon-cutters, aided by Lori Ward, director of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), and Manfred Schon, CEO of Up2Go, a cloud-based project management firm. City Council members Sam Ekong, Patrick Giesa and Marilyn Price also attended.
To get people revved up about electric vehicles, guests viewed a Tesla on display. The EV stations will put Northville on the map of charging sites in metro Detroit - a big consideration for drivers who plan their route with the ability to recharge their electric vehicles along the way. The electricity cost for the first 18 months will be covered by Up2Go, which teamed up with the DDA to install the two charging stations in Northville.
Up2Go, an international company, can view the EV charging stations from their downtown Northville office windows. The company managed the project, supplied the equipment and installation. The electric vehicle charging stations have Clipper Creek (standard level 2) charging capabilities.
To help attract EV owners to visit downtown Northville, the stations will be registered on ChargeHub, PlugShare, Plug in America, and will appear on maps that show recharging stations.
