Lending a helping hand

Northville Civic Concern is an all-volunteer organization whose purpose is to help those in need with food, yet it also collects and distributes household supplies, clothing and other necessities.

The food is distributed on the second and fourth Friday of the month, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the offices at 42951 Seven Mile Road. Civic Concern services approximately 100 families in the city of Northville and Northville Township, as well as Focus Hope recipients.

Civic Concern is funded primarily by the contributions of Northville community residents. In addition to monetary contributions, Civic Concern accepts donations of canned goods, cereal, paper products, soap and cleaning items, and baby products. These items can be dropped off at their location or at City Hall (lobby box marked for Civic Concern). The organization is a 501c nonprofit, which makes donations tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

The Northville Chapter of the Lion's Club meets every second and fourth Monday of the month in the Cady Inn at the Mill Race Village, located on Griswold Ave. in the City of Northville. Presently, there are approximately 20 members who work to help those with sight and hearing disabilities.

The Lions Club is most visible each April when they conduct their "White Cane" drive. At that time, members are seen at busy intersections soliciting contributions for their cause.

In addition to this activity, the Lion's Club sponsors the Leader Dog School in Rochester, MI, purchases glasses for children of poor families, and assists in testing newborns for hearing and sight deficiencies.

The Northville Community Foundation was organized to enhance the community by promoting historical preservation, the arts, community education and cultural events. The Foundation is a tax-exempt charitable organization, authorized to receive and administer endowment and other funds from individuals, businesses, professional and corporate sponsors. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

The Foundation manages Maybury Farm and sponsors annual events including the Golf Classic, Prayer Breakfast, and Holiday Home Tour.

Kiwanis was created for men and women who feel they must live for more than themselves alone. It is an outlet for service that enriches the lives of its members and brings the realization that existence can never be worthwhile until it is shared with others through acts of service.
