Tax Notes and Key Dates

The City of Northville Tax Department has compiled a list of key dates for your reference.

If you own a home

February 14
Last Day to pay Winter Taxes to the City without penalty or interest. Postmarks are not accepted. Payments placed in dropbox after hours will be posted to your account the next business day. If due date falls on a holiday or weekend, due date will be extended to next business day.

March 1
Assessment Notices are mailed the end of February, if you have not received yours by March 1, they are available online by clicking here or contact the City Assessor’s Office at (248) 449-9901.

March
The Board of Review meets for the purpose of reviewing the Assessment Rolls and hearing petitioner appeals during the second and third week of March. You must have an appointment to be heard by the Board of Review. Appointments can be made by contacting the Assessing Office at (248) 449-9901 after March 1.
   
June 1
Principal Residence Exemption Date. The taxpayer must own and occupy the property as their primary residence as of June 1st to receive the 18 mill exemption from school operating tax. June 1 is also the deadline to file the Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit.

August 31

Last day to pay Summer Taxes to the City without penalty or interest.  Postmarks are not accepted. Payments placed in drop box after hours will be posted to your account the next business day.  If due date falls on a holiday or weekend, due date will be extended to next business day.

November 1
Principal Residence Exemption Date. The taxpayer must own and occupy the property as their primary residence as of November 1st to receive the 18 mill exemption from school operating tax. November 1 is also the deadline to file the Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit.
If you have just purchased a home
45 Days from Purchase 
You have 45 days from the date of purchase to file a Property Transfer Affidavit.

If you own a business
February 14

Personal Property Statements or Exemption Affidavits are due back to the City no later than February 20. 

March 1
