Public forums and surveys are part of the process

Fair Housing Act covers apartments, homes and more. The Oakland County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) partnership relies on a mutual commitment to ensure fair housing. The federal law governing fair housing applies to: rental housing, homes for sale, advertising, home loans and home insurance.

Oakland County is conducting an “Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice” on behalf of its 53 CDBG partner communities, including the City of Northville. The process to evaluate consumer input concerning fair housing is required by HUD every five years and requires community and citizen engagement.

There are six scheduled county-wide public fair housing forums the week of Oct. 22. (The closest to Northville are in Wixom and Southfield.) Other aspects of the program, such as surveys, continue through Nov. 22, and a public presentation of findings will be held Jan. 22, 2020 in Waterford.
