Are you looking to develop your career as a fire fighter, emergency medical technician or paramedic? Are you new to the area with fire fighting experience elsewhere and interested in serving your new community? Are you a retired fire fighter who is interested in getting back into the business on a part-time, paid on call basis?
The department is looking for dedicated public safety personnel who want to serve the community. We welcome experienced candidates as well as new academy graduates who are looking to gain real-world experience as a part of their overall career development.
To apply for a position as a fire fighter, you must be at least 18 years old, a high school graduate and hold Fire Fighter I or II certification from the State of Michigan. You must also successfully complete the Council of Western Wayne written and physical agility tests (more information at
www.c-w-w.org), or have completed fire fighter training through a department sponsored class. Some of these requirements may be waived if you have worked for another fire department.
The department also accepts applications for a limited number of EMS-only positions. To apply, you must be at least 18 years old, a high school graduate and hold a valid, current EMS license from the State of Michigan at the EMT or Paramedic level.
The department encourages all personnel to complete training in both the fire fighting and EMS disciplines. All personnel are part-time employees of the city of Northville, and are paid at established hourly rates.
Prior to being hired, candidates must complete a background check and physical and psychological examinations. You do not need to live in the City of Northville or the City of Plymouth to apply, but must live or work close enough to our facilities so that you can respond in a timely fashion. All personnel are required to meet the department’s run response standards, and need to be available for weekly training sessions held on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
