Join us in building an inclusive world of lay that celebrates the abilities and interests of all community members.
Join the City of Northville in our efforts to build a world of play in Ford Field Park by replacing the existing structure with one that is fully accessible and meets all current playground safety standards. With your support we will develop a safe and welcoming space where community members of all abilities will be able to create similar experiences: today and in the future.
We have launched a crowdfunding campaign using the Patronicty Platform to raise money for a new and improved park. If the campaign reaches its goal of $75,000 by April 22nd, the project will win a matching grant with funds made possible by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's (MEDC) Public Spaces Community Places program.
DONATE HERE.
Your donation, matched with the contribution from MEDC, will help fund the following universally accessible features of the new playground:
- Adaptive swings
- Musical play features
- Inclusive communication board
- Sensory climber
- Inclusive whirl or seesaw
- ADA picnic tables and benches
- Accessible walkways and surfacing
The existing structure is difficult to access for those with mobility limitations, the new structure will be universally accessible and will have a play surface that is navigable for those who use mobility aides. The existing structure doesn't meet current playground safety standards, and the new structure will be comprised of modern materials and designed to ensure all users are able to explore safely.
Why now?
Parks and playgrounds are the great community equalizer. Many friendships are made on the playground, and relationships are developed through shared activities in public spaces. We all have a favorite playground, the thought of which brings a smile to our face - often followed by a memory of some crazy activity that we conjured up with friends we'd met there! We would have none of those experiences if we were unable to get to the playground or to use it in the same way as our friends did
Ford Filed Playground History
The large multi-feature wooden play structure was designed and built by the community in 1996.
