The Michigan Primary Election held Aug. 4 drew 587 voters to precinct 1 (Wayne County) and precinct 2 (Oakland County) while 1,692 voted by Absent Voter (AV) ballot, also known as a mail-in ballot.
In the midst of a pandemic, the primary election turnout was up from the 2018 August primary in which 2,098 people voted – a 42.47% turnout – compared to this year’s 44.6% turnout with 2,277 voters casting ballots.
This was the third election for Northville in which registered voters in Michigan could vote by AV ballot without providing a reason (the first was in November 2019). The Northville City Clerk received 2,155 requests for AV ballots – a vast increase from the 2018 August primary when 763 AV ballots were requested.
