If you need a new water meter, contact DPW

The City of Northville is completing a city-wide water meter replacement program to install new water meters and also replace second water meters used exclusively for outdoor use, such as for inground lawn sprinkler systems.

Residents and business owners are being asked to schedule an appointment for their water meter replacement directly with the city. Approximately 200 to 250 customers still need new equipment (as of July 2021). Please see the contact information on the DPW main page.

During the scheduled appointment, a worker will enter your home or business to replace the meter and upgrade the wiring, a process that takes up to one hour. The worker will also replace the touch pad currently located on an outside wall with a new meter interface unit (MIU). For security measures, City workers carry identification and drive city vehicles.

COVID 19 precautions are being taken by the crew that installs the water meter.

These new water meters meet the State of Michigan ‘no lead’ requirements and are guaranteed accurate for 20 years.

To help finance the purchase and installation of water meters at households and businesses, City Council approved a $622,000 loan from the City’s General Fund to the Water and Sewer Fund with 2.5% interest rate for seven years. The funds will be applied to the total cost of $859,786, with the balance coming from the Water and Sewer Fund reserves.

Residents who have questions about the program should contact the DPW Department.
